Demand Media’s Byron Reese on the Future Internet
Following up on a recent blog post re: David Kelly’s vision of the future Internet, here’s another video of an interview from 2009 with Byron Reese, Chief Innovation Officer for Demand Media, that was forwarded to me by a colleague:Vodpod videos no longer available.
While the video is over a year old, I think it very much aligns to David Kelly’s vision, and also many of the goals of the Semantic Web. Reese speaks of a world where everyone leaves a “digital footprint” on the Web of their identify, friends, activities, likes/dislikes, whereabouts, etc. The one machine (to use David Kelly’s term) that is the Web is able to capture this activity, and interpret, aggregate, relate, filter, distribute, and recommend/personalize this information to provide people with experiences and content that matter to them.
Reese doesn’t talk about the Web of Things that will complement this picture, but the basic message still applies – that of an intelligent, ubiquitous, responsive Web.
And of course, an intelligent Web requires semantics. 🙂
